While recovering from an injury or surgery, manual therapy and bodywork is being used more frequently than ever before. Gone are the days for prescriptions of bed rest and inactivity, and manual therapy techniques combined with functional exercise is being more readily used by physical therapists.

Get up and get moving Research has shown that mobility far surpasses rest after an injury. The activity  needs to be tailored to the clients current functional limitations, but research has shown that the quicker you get up and get moving, the faster the jumpstart to full recovery.

Hands-on techniques In the past, physical therapy focused on modalities such as electrical stimulation or ultrasound as its primary treatment choice with clients. However, more progressive physical therapists are now focusing on manual therapy techniques to physically change the architecture of muscles, ligaments, and joints. For instance, your therapist may use skilled massage or manipulate your bones and joints with careful, controlled force.

This allows for a quicker bounce back from injury, and a stable platform for which to heal effectively.
