I often see clients who have had a difficult experience with physical therapy in the past, and are wondering how this will be different. Many patients have experience with physical therapy treatments consisting of hot packs, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and instructions on how to complete a series of exercises, with little to no hands-on work by the physical therapist. This lack of manual therapy in traditional clinics is often due to time constraints with double booking and overlapping patients. With my concierge physical therapy service, I’m able to devote the full treatment hour utilizing manual therapy techniques. My approach to restoration of function and elimination of pain comes from a tailored evaluation focusing on patterns of movement and increased tone and tension in muscle groups. Manual therapy is used to release the muscle and allow for functional movement of the joint complex, then restoring normal strength and motion through functional exercise. This high quality of care leads to a quicker recovery, with the reduction of pain and most importantly future flare-ups. This creates a new pattern of movement, thus breaking the pain - movement - pain cycle.
