Waiting Rooms Cost You Money

Research published in the American Journal of Managed Care estimates that it takes a person an average of 121 minutes each time a person seeks medical care. How much of that time is spent with the actual healthcare professional? The average is 20 minutes. Twenty minutes for TWO hours out of your day?! The other time is spent driving to the clinic, doing paper work, communicating with non-medical office staff, and just plain sitting around waiting (this IS easier with an IPhone... but come on!) . When you consider the opportunity cost of this two hour break of your day, it can be frustrating. The value of work and productivity that the patient could have otherwise been engaged in can add up quickly.

Have you begun to expect waiting an excessively long time for your healthcare professional?

"Patience is so valuable I'm willing to wait forever to achieve it. And while I wait, I may as well get busy being short-tempered." This is a quote taken from "This Book is Not for Sale" by Jarod Kintz, and I find it appropriate for patients who spend a lot of time in waiting rooms. Its just not fun to be in pain and wait in a long line at a physical therapy clinic. I'd rather save the time and have a concierge physical therapist come to me. In addition, I think its also important to point out the opportunity cost that is lost with being away from your family while your waiting to be seen by your physical therapist. With in-home physical therapy, there is no need for arranging childcare, and you receive high-quality, effective manual physical therapy in the convenience of your home.
